Basics and modern practice of nasal high-flow therapy (UNI-MED Science)
By Jens Bräunlich
Nasal high-flow therapy (NHF) is an emerging respiratory therapy that has been gaining traction in acute care settings throughout the world. Critically eyed at the beginning, the benefit of NHF therapy has been demonstrated in clinical practice. The unbroken and burst enthusiasm for NHF has resulted in a rapid growing research activity. As with any emerging technology, what is currently known is dwarfed by what is unknown. Authors from the very start have provided their expertise and helped to develop this textbook, which for the first time summarizes the knowledge of the NHF technology, mechanisms and applications. This book aims to contribute to a faster understanding and acceptance of the NHF and to stimulate all colleagues, researchers and interested parties. It contains essential information on technical aspects and mechanisms of action as well as clinical applications like use in children, for hypoxemic respiratory failure, post extubation respiratory failure, hypercapnic respiratory failure and other specific conditions. This NHF volume should prove useful to pulmonary and critical care specialists as well as trainees, respiratory nurses and therapists, pharmacologists and physiotherapists.

Nasal high-flow therapy (NHF) is a revolutionary respiratory therapy that is quickly becoming an essential tool in acute care settings globally. Initially met with skepticism, the undeniable benefits of NHF therapy have been proven in clinical practice, leading to a surge in research and exploration. However, the potential of NHF therapy far outweighs what is currently understood, highlighting the need for a comprehensive resource that consolidates knowledge and experience in this rapidly evolving field.
In response to this need, expert authors have collaborated to create a groundbreaking textbook, aptly titled “
One of the key strengths of this book lies in its comprehensive coverage of clinical applications. NHF therapy has shown remarkable efficacy in a range of conditions, including the treatment of respiratory failure in children, hypoxemic respiratory failure, post-extubation respiratory failure, hypercapnic respiratory failure, and other specific conditions. By exploring these applications in detail, the book equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge needed to effectively incorporate NHF therapy into their practice.
This textbook also highlights the groundbreaking potential of NHF therapy, particularly in the context of respiratory care of critically ill patients. It delves into the technical aspects of NHF therapy, providing a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms of action. The insights gained from this book will empower healthcare professionals to optimize NHF therapy settings and maximize its therapeutic benefits for their patients.
