Computed Tomography of the Abdomen in Adults: 85 Radiological Exercises for Students and Practitioners (Exercises in Radiological Diagnosis)
By Auguste Wackenheim, Armelle Badoz, M.-T. Wackenheim
These exercises are meant for students and practitioners who wish to familiarize themselves with the normal and pathologieal computerized tomographie radioanatomy of the abdomen. The iconography is suffieiently characteristic to be read without the help of clinical or biological data. It comprises both normal and pathologie findings. Analysis of scans is comprised of two steps. The first part consists of the detailed study of normal scans, whieh serve as a reference. For this, eight main slice levels have been considered necessary and sufficient: neces sary since a certain number of slices are indispensable for the exploration of the abdomen; sufficient because a larger number of slices would risk rendering memorization difficult. The second part involves a study of the pathologie findings, organ by organ. Acknowledgements. Appreciation is extended to all those who have helped in realizing this study and, more particularly, to our friends and colleagues, J. L. DIETEMANN, C. Roy, J. L. BURGUET, M. VOUGE, and J. W. SOUITER. We would also like to thank Dr. J. WIECZOREK for his friendly assistance and advice in the planning and presentation of figures and schemata. 1 Technical Note Computerized tomography of the abdomen begins with an initial image called “scout view”. This numbered radio graph of the abdomen is an analogous representation of the information and allows the location of the eight selected slice levels; these are represented by horizontallines. The slices are 10 mm thick and are taken at intervals of 2.5 cm.
Are you a student or practitioner looking to expand your knowledge of abdominal computerized tomography (CT) radioanatomy? Look no further than the book “Computerized Tomography of the Abdomen” by Auguste Wackenheim, Armelle Badoz, and M.-T. Wackenheim. This comprehensive guide is designed to help you familiarize yourself with normal and pathological CT scans of the abdomen.
The authors have carefully curated a collection of iconography that is characteristic enough to be understood without the need for clinical or biological data. The book covers both normal and pathological findings, making it a valuable resource for analysis and interpretation of abdominal CT scans.
The book is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the detailed study of normal scans, providing a reference for understanding and identifying abnormalities. The authors have identified eight main slice levels that are necessary and sufficient for exploring the abdomen. This ensures that you have a solid foundation before delving into the second part of the book.
The second part of the book delves into the study of pathological findings, organ by organ. This systematic approach allows you to develop a comprehensive understanding of the various abnormalities that can be observed in abdominal CT scans. The authors have dedicated this section to analyzing and discussing the key pathological findings, providing you with valuable insights and knowledge.
Throughout the book, the authors express their gratitude to the individuals who have helped bring this study to life. They acknowledge the contributions of their friends and colleagues, as well as their appreciation for the assistance and advice provided by Dr. J. Wieczorek in planning and presenting the figures and schemata.

Introducing “Computerized Tomography of the Abdomen”
As a student or practitioner in the field of radiology, having a deep understanding of abdominal CT scans is essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. “Computerized Tomography of the Abdomen” offers a comprehensive and systematic approach to studying the normal and pathological findings observed in abdominal CT scans.
By starting with the detailed study of normal scans, the book provides a solid foundation for interpreting and identifying abnormalities. The authors have carefully selected eight main slice levels that are necessary and sufficient for exploring the abdomen. This focused approach allows for efficient learning and ensures that you can confidently analyze and interpret abdominal CT scans.
The second part of the book takes a deep dive into the study of pathological findings, organ by organ. This section provides valuable insights into the various abnormalities that can be observed in abdominal CT scans. By analyzing and discussing these findings, the authors equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to accurately diagnose and recommend appropriate treatment options.
What sets this book apart is its unique approach to iconography. The authors have included a collection of characteristic images that can be read without the need for additional clinical or biological data. This feature makes “Computerized Tomography of the Abdomen” a valuable resource for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
